By Rusty Nixon Correspondent PLYMOUTH — It will be a unique blend of talents, styles and genres that takes the stage at the Young Amphitheatre on Saturday night at 7 p.m., hoping to raise some money for a local singer’s dream. The Karaoke Cavalcade will get out under the lights to present a unique blend of music, comedy and all around fun in hopes of raising money to help Connor Sheehan, a local singer to audition for the Fox hit show American Idol for 2009. “We’re just a crazy group of people trying to have a little fun,” said the event’s organizer Monica Himes. “That’s really what life’s about.”
Sheehan, who will also perform, auditioned once before for the show. “He auditioned before when he was a freshman in high school,” said Himes. “Simon told him to come back when he was older and his voice had matured. “We really hope to have a little spoof of the show. I’m a Brit myself and maybe a little Simon Cowell will show up.” Along with the possible “appearance” by Simon, Michael Harding of the Country Jamboree will headline the show, performing a few of his hit songs. The rest of the cast includes local artists with a blend of song, dance and comedy that will make for a variety of fun. “We have a little hip-hop, some blues, a little rock and roll, and country is very popular,” said Himes. “When you’re entertaining people you don’t want them to be bored — we’re going to keep it going.” Along with various skits and parodies, Josh Overmyer will be there to perform a comedy routine and Bryttiny Youst will have a dance segment. Among other local artists performing will be Tim Sheehan, Dave and Lydia Starr, Isaac Clark, Carlos Bastardo, Patty Layer, Bob Snare, Dan Guzman and more. “Tim Sheehan does a marvelous Eminem,” said Himes. “Personally I’m not that keen on rap, but its marvelous and even the kids get a big kick out of his performance.” Other celebrities, such as Sonny and Cher, will also make an appearance, at least in parody form. “I’ve cornered some of my unfortunate friends and family in to taking part in some skits,” said Himes. “We’ve been doing shows for several years and it’s all about big laughs and lots of fun.” Tickets are $10, for senior citizens $8 and children under 12 are $2.50. They are available at the door or you can call 574-784-2406.
