Dispute over stop sign leads to barricades

Barricades blocking off access to the shopping center on North Michigan Street from the Taco Bell parking lot will stay up-at least for now.
On Wednesday, Taco Bell Manager Marsha Humphrey placed the barriers between Taco Bell property and the adjoining property and parked her truck in front of them. Humphrey said, “I have contacted the city numerous times asking for a stop sign.”

PLYMOUTH — Nearly 6,000 people attended the annual Latino Festival last weekend. The event was held in Centennial Park near the Young Amphitheater.
Rebecca Griffy of the sponsoring agency Hearts and Hands said two storm showers caused some people to leave, so, “It was hard to get an accurate count.”
However, the rain brought a rainbow that appeared at the end of the festival. Griffy said, “It ended right in our children’s area.”

Twenty-eight vendors served cultural foods and displayed unique goods. Several groups provided music for the festivities.
Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter presented a proclamation from the city of Plymouth to distinguished guests from Guanajuato, Mexico.
A portion of the proclamation read, “Therefore, I do hereby designate the date of June 21, 2008 to be Latino Festival Day in our community, and on behalf of the entire city and our citizens, extend a most cordial welcome to all delegates assembled, pledging to do all within our power to make this an occasion whose far reaching effects will benefit persons of all races and walks of life, far into the future.”
Guests included: Sra. Cecilia Vazquez de Vargas, Arq. José Luis Moran Gonzalez and C. Adriana Gonzalez from Guanajuato. Others were Lic. Veronica Orozco Gutierrez and Lic.  José Alfonso Borja Pimental from Jaral del Progresso.
