Bremen grad never missed a school day E-mail
Monday, 23 June 2008
By Peter Ribaudo Intern
BREMEN — Six Bremen High School seniors had perfect attendance records this year. Four of the seniors had perfect attendance records dating back to their middle school days.
So, what are they putting in the water?
“I think it all starts with the parents,” said Nate Mckeand, assistant principal at Bremen High. “We have a great community that supports the school and really values education.”
Shaun Sahlhoff’s attendance record stands out in particular. Not only did he never miss a day in high school; he’s never missed a day of school in his life.
“I didn’t get sick really when I was young and by the time I got to high school there was really no point in missing,” said Sahlhoff.
It was around middle school when he realized he hadn’t missed any school, so he decided to try and keep it that way.
When asked what else motivated him, Sahlhoff didn’t have to look far from the apple tree.
“My parents really pushed me to go to school every day. I wouldn’t say they forced me, but they were definitely a big influence,” said Sahlhoff.
Despite his perfect attendance, Sahlhoff is no bookworm. He stayed busy after school by participating on the school’s wrestling team and as an offensive lineman on the football team. He also works at Woodie’s Supermarekt and enjoys wake-boarding and off-roading.
Now that Sahloff has graduated, he plans to attend Wabash College. Will he try and continue his perfect attendance despite all the freedom and partying that goes along with college life?
“I plan on it,” Sahlhoff said.
