Area Scouts collect books E-mail
Monday, 23 June 2008
By John Reed Correspondent
PLYMOUTH —More than 1,000 books were loaded up and prepared to be shipped to the Philippines, where they will be used in newly built public libraries.
Boy Scouts, along with one Cub Scout group, from packs 257 and 251, met at the Amor Family house, where they loaded up the books donated in the name of June Amor, who recently passed away.
“She loved books and loved to read.  She was still going to college at the age of 65.  She got cancer, and while fighting it, also studied it.  She was able to talk to doctors as if she was one, using all the big words,” says her brother Russell Amor.  “I'm sure she is looking down on us right now, and is happy with what we are doing,” says Russell.
Books collected by The Singles Ministry were then packaged and shipped to the Philippines.  The Singles Ministry helps men find devoted life-mates from overseas.  They have helped over eight hundred men find their wives, according to Founder Rob Grigsby.
“Public libraries in the Philippines are almost unheard of.  Most libraries can only be found in colleges.  This is a way to touch the most people, with the least amount of money, and that will last a long time,” says Grigsby.
After the books were loaded up, as a thank you, helpers were treated to a traditional Philippine lunch, prepared by the wives of the ministry’s members.
People having books that they would like to donate, are encouraged to contact Robert at 574-498-6777.  More libraries are being built and The Singles Ministry will continue their mission, in helping to get books in the hands of the Philippine community.

My daughter Amanda is the keeper of the THanksgiving book.
Just before our meal the book is pass around, and everyone from the oldest to the
little ones are asked to enter what they are most thankful for. The book has been
passed for 10 years and it is a family history that we cherish. - Lorraine Devros (Tippecanoe, IN)

My husband's Mother made her Thanksgivings Dressing into
rounded "baseballs" and baked them in the oven for 45 minutes at 350 till the
outside is golden brown and crispy. Chester is from Southern Kentucky and we know of
no one else that makes their dressing in this manner. This will be my 36th
Thanksgivings to make them and they are always a big "hit" with the kids and men at
the table. Chester's Grandmother Oakes ran a boarding house and maybe it was a form
of portion control, each alloted 2 or 3. - Mary Grace Woodfill-Oakes (Paso Ancho, Panama)
