Argos Clerk-Treasurer Pam Bishop steps down E-mail
Thursday, 12 June 2008
By Angel Perkins Staff Writer
ARGOS — Argos Clerk-Treasurer Pam Bishop stepped down from her position after 10 years serving the town in that office.
Bishop was elected to the position in May of 1998 with no opposition, and has worked for the town and under the rule of four councils, some members of whom were re-elected officials.
She turned in her official resignation June 4, to be effective as of July 1 when she begins her new position as the Argos Community School Corporation’s Director of Finances, replacing Tom McFarland who was offered a position in the Whitko school district. Bishop said she felt now was the time to step away from the position and that she was grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve the town and its residents.
“I was looking at the job security (the school position would offer) and that I won’t have to run for election,” she said.
Until she is replaced, Candi Weller will act as interim clerk-treasurer.
Because the town council has no say as to whom attains the position and since there is no local Republican precinct committee chairman, the responsibility is turned over to the county chair, Marshall County Prosecuting Attorney Dave Holmes.
Holmes will be the one to find a replacement to fill Bishop’s remaining three-and-a-half years of her four-year term.
