Treva Irene Hoffman
May 14, 1912 – June 1, 2008
    Treva Irene Hoffman, residing in South Bend, passed away at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008 in her home at the age of 96.
    She was born May 14, 1912 in Nappanee to Ervin and Cora E. (Schalliol) Hygema, and has remained a lifelong resident of this area. On Dec. 27, 1930 in Nappanee, she and George A. Hoffman were united in married by her grandfather, Rev. David Hygema. Mr. Hoffman passed away June 9, 1989.  Two sisters, Fern Feitz and Mabel Annis, and four brothers, Clyde, Donald, Kenneth, and Ervin Hygema also preceded her in death.
    Mrs. Hoffman retired in 1977 from Ristance Corp. and had formerly been employed with Woolworth’s as well.  She was a longtime active member of St. John United Church of Christ, Woodland.
    Two daughters, Evelyn Penrod of Lakeville, and Phyllis and Larry Schafer of South Bend, and a son, Duwaine and Yvonne Hoffman of South Bend, survive Mrs. Hoffman. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and nine great- great-grandchildren. A sister, Erma Miller of South Bend survives Treva as well.
    Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at St. John United Church of Christ, Woodland. Rev. Jo An Schaetzle, pastor will officiate.  Graveside services and burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Palmer Funeral Home-Lakeville, 314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the Church.
