Bass Lake splashes into festival mode E-mail
Friday, 27 July 2007
BY JOHN REED LEADER EDITOR
BASS LAKE — The Bass Lake Splash, which will be held this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, is truly an “around the lake” event this year.
The festival, which was at the beach and campgrounds last year, has been changed to be held at a variety of locations, including the Lions Club grounds on the east side of the lake.
Back this year, after a one-year hiatus, are the around-the-lake garage and yard sales, which will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Here’s a look at key events:
• Carnival rides have been expanded to include more adult and kiddie rides. This year they will be located at 5292B S. Ind. 10 of the northeast side of the lake. The carnival opened earlier than the rest of the festival, on Tuesday, July 24, and runs through 3 p.m. on Sunday.
• Arts and crafts booths are at the Lions Club this year. For those unfamiliar with the club’s location, it is off Ind. 210 on the east side of the lake, north of Ind. 10.
• Food booths will be located at various spots. The booths will be open on Saturday and until 3 p.m. Sunday.
• There will be two, not one, historic tram tours running this year. They begin at the BLPOA Building.
• The entertainment stage will be set up across from Fingerhut Bakery, with performances on Saturday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.
• Kids activities are on Saturday next to Fingerhut Bakery. Games start at 10 a.m., the fishy hunt and minnow race at 10:30 a.m., the scavenger hunt at noon.
• Waterball will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the California Township Fire Station, on Ind. 10 south of the lake.
• Water volleyball will be at the Bass Lake Beach from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
• Also at the beach is the Classic & Custom Car Show, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday only.
• The parade will be held on Sunday as usual, starting at 1 p.m. The parade lines up at at County Road 210 and Western Avenue (500 South) at noon. It steps off at 1 p.m. and circles around the lake to end at 210 and Ind. 10 (Bass Lake Ristorante location).
• The Bass Lake Idol Contest will be held on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Bass Lake Community Building. Deadline to enter was July 13.
• The big fireworks show is held on the lake and begins at dusk on Saturday. Festival organizers are encouraging people to decorate their boats and join in a boat parade after the fireworks. There is not a decorating contest this year.
