By Rusty Nixon Correspondent PLYMOUTH — Oliver Ford in Plymouth is giving you a chance to be true to your school, simply by taking a little ride this weekend. Saturday, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oliver’s will be offering test drives of the latest Ford cars, and raising money for the Plymouth Athletic Booster Club at the same time. For every participant who takes a 2008 Focus, Edge or other new Ford product for a spin during the Cruise 4 UR School event on Saturday, May 24, Ford and Oliver Ford will donate $20, up to a total of $6,000, to Plymouth High School.
Ford Motor Company chose Oliver and PHS because of the company’s performance, not just in sales, but in customer satisfaction. Because of that Ford will be giving to the Plymouth community. “We have to get good report cards,” said John Oliver of Oliver Ford. “It’s kind of fitting that our ‘grades’ with our customers are going to give back to the school.” Not only is this a great opportunity to generate much-needed funding for Big Red school activities, but it is also the perfect time to check out the 2008 Ford product lineup, which features new cars, trucks and crossovers loaded with cutting-edge safety, quality and design innovations. Additionally, some of the models available will feature Ford’s exclusive new SYNC technology, a fully integrated, voice-activated communications and entertainment system that works with most digital media players and Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones. Sign up for the event will be at the pavilion next to the football field in the PHS parking lot. Even though Ford will be donating for one test drive of one vehicle per household, anyone over 21 is welcome to come and test drive as many vehicles as they like. “The football team is selling Rasta Joe’s, the swimming and diving team is going to have beverages and the gymnastics team will have a bake sale and car wash,” said Oliver of other events planned in conjunction. “Ron Zimmerman, who takes photos for the school will also be there to take family pictures. We’ll have a Mustang Shelby there if anyone just wants to get a photo taken and he said that he will donate all his proceeds to the Booster Club as well.” AM-1050 WTCA will also be broadcasting live from the event. “It’s been really great to see how the community has gotten behind this,” said Oliver. “Now we need to go out and raise as much money as we can.” |
