Walkerton first graders greet a newborn during a recent tour of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. Kindergarten and first grade classes from elementary schools in Marshall County and southern St. Joseph County tour the facility each spring. By the end of the week, approximately 450 students will have participated in the tours.

Diana Soike, environment of care coordinator at SJRMC, led the children throughout the entire hospital. The annual tours take some 20 hours to complete over a two-week period. Fifteen auxiliary members volunteered to accompany the children. Volunteers included; Roma Garnard, Nancy Crow, Helen Pear, Carol Nye, Elaine Hansen, Mary Hoover, Alice Ruiz, Lynn Gee, Ajean Treet, Norma Young, Dixie Lawrence and Bev Rundle.
As a follow-up for the children from Walkerton, Webster, Argos, Washington, Jefferson, Menominee and St. Michael schools, each of the children can submit a name for newly acquired skeleton at SJRMC.
According to Soike, a drawing will take place next week to determine to official name. Soike told the children that the old skeleton had literally fallen apart and Auxiliary members had donated a new model.
