The Argos EMS, Argos Fire and Argos Police departments held a mock accident at the high school recently. Argos EMS Director Russ Alderfer said a mock catastrophe is presented to the junior and senior class to promote restraint from using alcohol or drugs. “In this demonstration, we had a drunk driver hitting the driver’s side of the vehicle containing a mother and child, killing the child,” explained Alderfer. “We screen volunteers to help out and we get Samaritan (emergency air ambulance service of Fort Wayne, out of Rochester) to come. We had the ‘driver’ arrested.”
Volunteers act out the event and town emergency service personnel show what is done during such a scenario. The drill is put on every other year immediately prior to the Argos prom to encourage students to take precautionary methods and to keep an event such as depicted from happening. Photos provided
