Art show highlights best of student art E-mail

Culver’s Tri Kappa has announced top winners in its annual student art show, which took place over the April 25-27 weekend at the Culver Cove.
Taking the People’s Choice award was Culver Academies student Gualine Chen for his painting, “Savannah King.”  Culver Comm. Middle School student Sarah Rakich was voted People’s Favorite Artist for her photography. First place in the Best of Show category went to Culver Academies student Angela Carlson for her “Portrait of a Student.” Each of these students earned $50 cash prizes.
Earning second place Best of Show (and a $40 cash prize) was Culver Academies student Morgan Henshaw, for “Ode to Oregon II.” Guanlin Chen also won third place Best of Show and $30 for  “Who do you say that I am?”
In the three dimensional art category, Culver Comm. High School student Stormy Marie Yockey won first place and a $50 prize for “Mr. Kitty Box;” CCHS student Abby Hayworth won second place and $40 for “Jigsaw;” third place and $30 went to CCHS’ Amanda Rabenau for “Swirls.”
In the Color category, CCHS student Dominic Sheets took first place (and won $50) for “Dom.” Second place and $40 went to Alena Williams, CCHS, for “Just Me.” CCHS student Amanda Snyder won third place and $30 for “Bright Dog.” “Flower Study” by Brindy Hamstra, Culver Academies, was in fourth place and won $35.
In the Black and White (non photographic) category, first prize and $50 went to Academies student Michael Nayfor his “Portrait of a Friend.” Clancy Tripp of Culver Academies came in second and earned a $40 prize for “Portrait of a Student;” $30 and third place went to “Snail-life” by Karlee Bauer of Culver Academies; “Still Life with Vase” took fourth place and $25 for Allison Rudolph of Culver Academies.
In the photography category, Academies student Trent Shafer took first place and $50 for “In Advance of a Hand.” Sarah Rakich’s “The Only Exception” came in second and earned her $40. “Sunday Morning” by the Academy’s Brady Banks won third place and $30.
Honorable mention ribbons and cash prizes also went to CCHS student Justin Master for “Midnight Prowl,” Zafiro Joseph of Culver Academies for “Legion,” a watercolor painting, Madeleine Balchan of Culver Academies for the painting, “Self Portrait,” Mitchell Murphy of the Academies for silver gelatin print, “The Past,”and Samantha Mersch of CHS for “Country,” in watercolor format.
Culver Community Middle School students earning prizes were Sarah Rakich, first place, for her photograph, “Unwelcome;” Seth Schaeffer, second place, for his painting, “Wintery Woman;” Kacie Hermanson, thirs place, for her painting, “Blue Tomorrow;” and Joseph Krsek, fourth place, for his painting, “Down on the Farm.”
