Thursday, 08 May 2008
By Hilari Weldon Culver Comm. High School
Culver High School’s girls’ track team made history April 18 as they competed in the North Miami Relays. The team, coached by Peggy Arquette, took first place honors for the first time in the school’s history.
“This was the best feeling in the world, like when the boys’ basketball team won sectionals,” said Coach Peggy Arquette.
The girls accumulated many ribbons at the meet. Firsts were given to the team of Liz West, Susannah Baker, and Trinity Garcia for high jump, and Lauren Shaffer also took a first in the two mile.

Receiving seconds were C. J. Dehning, Patrice McBee, Shaffer, and Nicole Ziaja in the 800 relay. Also receiving seconds were West, Baker, and Nicole Carnegie for long jump; Sarah Bailey, Carnegie and Hilari Weldon in discus; West, McBee, Garcia, and Whitney Sanders in the sprint medley; Garcia, West, Ziaja, and Sanders in the distance medley; Bailey, Weldon, Carnegie, and Coleysa Henderson in the throwers relay.
In addition, Sarah Bailey broke the discus record with the throw of 116’ 10” and the 800 relay team consisting of Dehning, Carnegie, McBee, and Shaffer broke the school record as well.
