By Mandy McFarland Editor NAPPANEE — As Nappanee continues to grow, so does its businesses and family-owned stores. Last Friday morning, April 18, Ace Hardware celebrated its grand reopening in the building that formerly housed Martin's Super Market. According to president Kim Stickley, the new location is an improvement on the previous one. "We've got more space, we've got new merchandise, better lighting, more parking," he said. "It's easier to get in and out." The Stickley family has owned the Ace Hardware store since 1986, though it was not always called Ace. When the store first opened, it was known as Coast to Coast. They moved to a new location on U.S. 6 in 1988 and converted to Ace in 1990. They made their move to the Market Street location one month ago.
Ace offers a variety of convenient services, including windows and screen doors, some rental items, Echo lawn equipment, Weber grills and more. They also offer Benjamin paint and the Ace line of paint. "We can computer match colors for the Benjamin and the Ace paint," Stickley said. The Stickleys have enjoyed working with the Nappanee community for the last 22 years. "It's still a small town atmosphere," Stickley said. Stickley also said that several of the same employees have remained at the store long-term, including one for more than a decade and another for more than 20 years. "The vast majority of our customers are very good to work with," he said. The Stickleys also own three other ACE Hardware stores in the area, including Six Span Ace, Ligonier Ace and Linway Ace. Nappanee Ace Hardware hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
