Bremen sophomore dies after car crash E-mail
Tuesday, 22 April 2008
By Holly Heller Staff Writer
BREMEN — A Bremen High School sophomore died Monday at 10 a.m. due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident that took place on Miami Trail Sunday afternoon.
Christian Jimenez, 17-year-old son of Jose and Clara Jimenez of Bremen, was driving a 1996 Toyota two-door southbound on Miami Trail.
At approximately 4:03 p.m. Sunday, April 19, just south of Shively Road in St. Joe County, Jimenez crossed the center line and collided with a 2004 pick-up truck driven by Emily Clinger, 27, of Bremen.
Jimenez was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated by the Lakeville Fire Department. He was airlifted to Memorial Hospital, where he died Monday morning.
“He was a very polite young man,” said Bremen High School Principal Bruce Jennings. “He was handsome, extremely handsome. Very softspoken. Big smile. He had a circle of friends and a huge family. He was a very well-liked, popular young man. He was a good student.”
Grief counselors from the Bowen Center were available to students at Bremen High School following the tragic loss of their classmate and friend Monday.
Another Bremen student, James T. Edwards, 17, was a passenger in the car driven by Jimenez. He suffered facial abrasions and was treated and released from Memorial Hospital.
Clinger suffered minor injuries, along with her three daughters, who were passengers in the pickup truck — Elizabeth, 7; Isabella, 5; and Hannah, 3.
The crash is still under investigation by the Indiana State Police.
