St. Joseph Regional Medical Center honored the volunteers of the Hospital Auxiliary in a very special way at this year’s gala to raise money for the St. Joseph Health Center. Many volunteers were honored for their selfless service to further the hospital’s mission.
The members of the auxiliary never expected the honor when they became involved.
“I think people want to feel needed,” said Lawrence. “People want to feel productive, like they’re doing something. To be honest with you there is nothing like that feeling you get in your heart by helping someone, whether it’s a smile, words, pat on the back or a hug.”
Many members of the auxiliary received that hug from the hospital Friday night as they came forward to accept awards for their service over the years. Robyn Hammonds, Alice Ruiz, Juanita Uhlig, Jack Stapleton, Elaine Hansen, Mary Grossman and Mildred Phillips all received a thank you for their time and support.
“People get involved because they need to care, we care about our community,” said Lawrence. “To be honest we have something for everyone who would like to be involved. Tell us what your skills are. We’d love to find something for you.”
