PLYMOUTH — The United Way of Marshall County has announced Brad Serf, 2007 Campaign Chair, was one of 15 recipients of the ‘Volunteer of the Year’ award presented April 3 at the Indiana Association of United Ways State Leaders Conference in Indianapolis.
He was nominated by Executive Director Jennifer Maddox and the United Way Board of Directors.

“Brad led the 2007 campaign as the Marshall County campaign chair. With a challenging economy, Brad and his campaign cabinet were able to raise $500,000 to fund community efforts to improve lives. He devoted many hours each week throughout the campaign to personally making calls and giving presentations throughout the county.  Brad’s commitment to United Way was evident in everything he did.” said Maddox.
Brad attributes the success of the campaign to the teamwork of many.
“While the recognition is appreciated I must acknowledge that the annual campaign is clearly a "team sport" and no one person can possibly make it a success alone. Jennifer and the United Way staff were most significant in the success of the campaign. In addition, all of you (Board/Campaign Cabinet) helped in some fashion over the course of the 2007 campaign and that is much appreciated. 2008 will be even more challenging but with all of us assisting and the strong campaign cabinet Ed Ruiz has put together, we will get it done again. This is truly work worth doing.  I think often about those that are helped by the United Way of Marshall County — including my own family.”
Brad volunteered as campaign vice chair in 2006 and has served as a member of the board of directors of the United Way of Marshall County since April 2007.  He is Vice President at Gibson Insurance in Marshall County and was twice honored with the Gibson Insurance President’s Club distinction in 2003 and 2006.  Brad is married to Patricia and has two sons Tommy and Will.
United Way of Marshall County also received a first place GEM (Golden Excellence in Media) Award for their advertising for “Dine Out for United Way Week.”
The United Way of Marshall County partners with 15 Member Agencies to provide services for the elderly, youth, those in need and health services.  United Way also supports programs across the county in addition to the Member Agencies.
For more information, contact Jennifer S. Maddox, Executive Director, United Way of Marshall County at 574-935-3366.
