Walkerton’s Mosson is Mrs. Indiana E-mail
Monday, 07 April 2008
By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
WALKERTON – Marshall County has more pageant royalty to boast about as Deb Mosson will try to add the title of Mrs. United States to her current titles of Guidance Director, working mom, and wife.
The Mrs. United States Pageant, headquartered in Rochester, N.Y., announced that the Walkerton native will represent the state of Indiana in a national competition for the title, “Mrs. United States”. The pageant is slated for late July in Las Vegas.

“I’m just very excited,” said Deb. “It’s something that I’ve been working toward for a long time and it feels good that that perseverance is finally rewarded.”
Chances are if you know the Mosson family, you know Gordon has been a teacher and former John Glenn boys basketball coach, and Deb is the guidance director at the same school. The family is completed by sons Drew and Reid.
“The difference between the Mrs. United States pageant and other’s like Miss America obviously the contestants are married and not single,” said Mosson. “There is no talent category to the judging either, but there are all the other traditional categories.”
Since 1986, the Mrs. United States Pageant annually pays tribute to married women throughout the nation for their strength, beauty, intelligence and resilience. The pageant acknowledges the fact that married women are an inspiration to families, friends, colleagues and community.
“I really just hope that maybe I can inspire some other married women,” said Mosson. “I hope that others will understand the importance of having that time for yourself. You really can’t be as good a wife or mother unless you take time to recharge yourself.”
She admits that it’s that time for herself that is the toughest to find.
“I really have to work to make the time to work out,” she said. “Juggling schedules with the family is truly the toughest part.”
Deb will join other contestants from across the United States in Las Vegas this July. During the competition, a panel of judges will score the contestants on beauty, charm, personality, poise and the ability to articulate. Contestants participate in personal interview with the distinguished panel of judges, and on stage, in evening gown and swimsuit competitions.
The winner of the Mrs. United States Pageant will receive many prizes, including a cash award and the opportunity to travel the nation for a year as a role model and spokesperson for married women.
Deb is very passionate about her platforms of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the impact of positive relationships and emotional energy in our lives.
“Ultimately my goal is really to continue to improve myself and help others to improve themselves,” she said. “I’m very excited about helping get the word out with the Multiple Sclerosis Society.”
