PLYMOUTH — Thanks to Martin’s Super Market, Plymouth’s bicycle patrol officers will be riding in style.
Martin’s raised nearly $3,000 in a recent fundraiser for the Plymouth Police Department and the department used the money to purchase bikes and other equipment for the detail.

“My bike was 13 years old,” said Sergeant Gary Cleveland of the PPD, who started as a bike officer in 1995. “We decided to use the funds to purchase a Smith and Wesson bicycle, which is the top of the line. All thanks to Martins.”
Country Road Bicycles was able to acquire the bike and provides service for the PPD bike patrol.
Martin’s employees chose to support the Plymouth Police Department with the project as a way of giving back to a group that gives a lot to the community.
In addition to the money raised, Martin’s employees also donated their time to detail the department’s patrol cars.
Patrolman Ted Brown will join Cleveland on bike patrol for the summer.
“When we started this in 1995 it was as a way to get ready for the Greenway Trail,” said Cleveland. “That’s still our main patrol area but we also patrol downtown and can be used in residential areas after dark.”
