BY JOHN REED LEADER EDITOR NORTH JUDSON — Councilwoman and prominent citizen Catherine Ann “Katie” Lemke died Sunday, March 23, at the age of 78. Lemke fell victim to cancer, dying at Methodist hospital in Indianapolis. She was president of the North Judson Town Board at the time of her death, and had been active until shortly before her death. She was proud of her work and a highly active member of CASA as a special advocate for children affected by action in the Starke County courts.
She was a retired teacher. She was a member of Sigma Nu National Society, Phi Beta Kappa, Honor Society in Education, Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion, Friends of the Library, bridge club, treasurer of the Starke County council on Aging, retired member of the Indiana Teachers Association, and a lifetime member of the SS Cyril and Methodius Church Christian Ladies Association. She was the 2007 Starke County volunteer of the Year. She is survived by a son, Larry Lemke of Knox; three daughters, Maureen Bryant of Brownsburg, Ann Williams of West Layfayette, Kristy Lemke of Teaneck, N.J.; and a brother, Patrick Gallivan of Woodland, Calif. She had four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services are to be held Thursday, March 27. at 11 a.m. at Ss Cyril and Methodius Church, with burial in St. Jacob’s Cemetery, North Judson. Visitation was Wednesday, March 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Braman & Bailey Funeral Home, North Judson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar John Lemke and three brothers. |
