Hissong is Miss Maxinkuckee E-mail

CULVER — As a former Little Miss Maxinkuckee and Junior Miss Maxinkuckee winner, Morgan Hissong knows all about pageant success.

But her latest crowning achievement shocked even her.

In a five-person field, including two recent high school graduates and an incoming senior, Morgan, the youngest contestant at age 15, earned the Culver LakeFest Miss Maxinkuckee Pageant title Saturday behind the Culver Depot.

She also won Miss Congeniality.

“It was such a surprise,” Morgan said of her Miss Maxinkuckee win. “When I got Miss Congeniality I thought, ‘At least they like me.’”

Morgan, an incoming sophomore at Culver Community High School, credited her past experience for helping with her pageant walk and Friday night interview. One interview question asked what kind of fruit she would be.

“I think it was the interview; I think I did pretty well,” she said of her key to victory. “The fruit I said I would be is a banana, first of all, because I’m tall. Also, I’m shy, so I can be hard to get to know, just like a banana peel can be hard to get into. But, once you get to know me, I’m sweet.”

Morgan, who addressed AIDS awareness during Saturday’s theme portion of the pageant, said she rehearsed her presentations religiously.

While she did most of her preparation herself — including hair and makeup — she also received help from mom, Tina.

“I practiced so much in the mirror,” Morgan said. “I practiced even while I was brushing my teeth.”
Joining Morgan as royalty for next month’s LakeFest are Caitlynn Brewer, Junior Miss; Jordan Schrimsher, Little Miss; and Marcella Cooper, Princess.
