Culver Community High School last week held a kick-off assembly on March 5 to introduce Culver’s Relay for Life event to students.
The assembly included three cancer survivors telling their stories, two of whom are CHS faculty members, Mike Schwartz and Deb Scott. Katie Barnes, former Culver Middle School student and presently a student at Culver Girls Academy,  provided information about the April 18 event, for which students were given an opportunity to sign up through clubs they are involved with at the school. Relay for Life raises money for the American Cancer Society. 

Already signed up are CHS’ Business Professionals of America, CAVS service club, the Caval Crier newspaper staff, Cornucopia literary magazine staff, the Industrial Technology Club, the Foreigners Club, and several student-developed teams not affiliated with school-sponsored clubs.
Several CCHS staff members will be chaperoning and sponsoring teams as well.  
In addition to forming teams, the school will also contribute to the evening’s entertainment. Two Culver Community School bands will be performing at the event, which takes place all night Friday the 18 until the morning of the 19, at the Culver Academy track at the corner of S.R. 117 and 10.
Culver High School is selling luminaries to help raise money for the event, and the IT club will be making plaques to commemorate the event and selling them to the community and the schools in order to raise money for the event.
