By Holly Heller Staff Writer BREMEN — Senior citizens who don't normally file federal taxes can still receive a tax stimulus check from the federal government by filling out a simple tax form, according to Jackie Wright of the Marshall County Council on Aging. "You don't just automatically get a stimulus check," Wright explained. "You have to file taxes. That's the entry point. If you do not file federal taxes, you do not get a stimulus check."
Wright said the Council has highlighted the lines that need to be filled out on the 1040 form, which basically include name, address and social security earnings along with a signature and date. Once that basic information is filled out, the senior needs to write the words "Stimulus Check" across the top of the form. "It's a pretty simple process that we can help them through," Wright said. "We're just trying to get the word out. There's all these people out there that possibly could file and could then get a stimulus check. All they need to do is fill out this abbreviated form. We can help them with that." The Marshall County Council on Aging is located at 1305 W. Harrison in Plymouth. In addition, a representative is on hand at the Bremen branch, located in the clinic building next to CVS Pharmacy. For more information, call 1-888-936-9904 or 574-546-5363.
