The Starke County Democrats have set Saturday, Dec. 29, at 9 a.m. for the oath of office ceremony at the Knox Community Center. All Knox city, North Judson and Hamlet Democrat elects are invited to participate. Leading the pack in Knox is Mayor Elect Rick Chambers, as well as Clerk Treasurer Jeff Houston, Council Members Linda Berndt, Ed Blue, Ron Parker, Jeffery Berg, and Richard Neuberg. North Judson Candidates include Clerk Treasurer Connie Miller and Council Members Katie Lemke and Dan Anderson. Clerk Treasurer Elect Neva Bailey will take the Oath of Office for the Town of Hamlet, as well as Council Members Bob Yung and Kerry Stone. Hamlet Council President John Goble, who was re-elected has filed a letter of resignation effective Dec. 26, 2007, due to the fact he has purchased another home outside of Hamlet’s corporate limits.
All citizens, friends, and candidate’s families are invited to attend. David Matsey will be administering the Oath of Office. Starke County Clerk Evelyn Skronski has prepared the necessary paperwork. Coffee and cookies will be served after the ceremony. With regards to the Hamlet Town Council position, Ward 1, being vacated by Goble, Democrat Chairman Doug Vessely has set a Caucus to elect a replacement. The Caucus will be held on Friday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m. at the Hamlet Town Hall. Any interested candidate must be a Democrat and live within the district of Ward 1 in the city limits of Hamlet. Candidates must file a declaration of candidacy with the Starke Circuit Court Clerk Skronski. They must file a letter of intent and a copy of the declaration of candidacy with Vessely 72 hours prior to the caucus at 301 E. Garden Street, North Judson, IN 46366. Only the precinct committeemen vote for the replacement.
