Family Dollar expected in Bourbon E-mail
Tuesday, 04 December 2007
By Angel Perkins Staff Writer
BOURBON — Sometimes rumors do ring with a little truth and the latest, about getting a discount store with a national name, is true. The Family Dollar company is always looking for a good location to start up a new store.
They found the old Lincoln’s Supermarket building after contacting The Peniel Group Inc. of Terre Haute, and had them get to work having the building torn down at the merging of Center Street and Lincoln Hwy. (or “Old Hwy. 30”). On Nov. 12, The Peniel Group's representative, Todd Rogers, project manager, met with town officials to assure various ordinances would be acceptable before building on the property.
Sara Boyer, property and leasing manager for The Peniel Group, Inc. said the Family Dollar company (with it’s corporate office in Charlotte, N.C.) operates their own stores and leases buildings for them. “Family Dollar saw a need for a store in Bourbon,” said Boyer. “We worked with them to find the property and signed a lease (with them) for this location.”
Although the new building has yet to be built, town officials said that the new structure would begin construction after the first of the year (perhaps spring) and should be completed within one month of its start. Once the building is complete, it is expected that around 10 persons will be hired for stocking up the shelves and two or three will stay on as full and part-time help.
The Family Dollar will stock general store merchandise from foods, clothing and cleaning supplies to home decor, auto maintenance products and toiletries.
