7 inducted into Culver Academies’ Hall of Fame E-mail

CULVER — Culver Academies recently inducted seven new members into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame, increasing the total number to 70 since the inaugural class was honored in 1994.
The class of 2007 features Michigan state-championship-winning wrestling coach Richard W. Bird ‘65, former Culver Military Academy football standout James S. Gault ‘70, record-setting former Culver Girls Academy swimmer and track and field star Lizette L. Hedberg ‘78, former CMA, collegiate and professional hockey player Scott "Skeeter" R. Moore ‘82, and former CMA, college and professional soccer player Luis A. Quintana ‘80. Former CMA varsity golf coach Ervin R. Nelson was honored posthumously in the coaching category, while the late Frank E. McKinney Jr. ‘51 (summer camp) was inducted in the lifetime achievement category for his remarkable accomplishments as a swimmer.
Some of the more prominent previous 63 inductees include: late Brooklyn and Los Angles Dodgers President Walter P. O’Malley ‘22, late Cincinnati Reds Owner Louis "Gus" Nippert ‘22, late Sporting News President and Treasurer C.C. Johnson Spink ‘35, Tennessee Titans Owner K.S. Bud Adams ‘40, late Kansas City Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt ‘42 (summer school), late Kentucky Horse Park founder John R. Gaines ‘46, New York Yankees Owner George M. Steinbrenner ‘48, Houston Astros President of Baseball Operations Talbot M. Smith ‘50, auto racing entrepreneur Roger Penske ‘50 (summer school), America’s Cup Winner William I. Koch ‘58, five-time National Hockey League All-Star Gary Suter ‘82, former United States World Cup soccer team member Juergen P. Sommer ‘87 and 1990 Indiana Miss Basketball Patricia Babcock ‘90.
