PLYMOUTH — The Marshall County Clerk’s Office provided the preliminary tally of voter turnout. Just 2,730 voters of a registered 8,768 — or 31.14 percent — voted in last night’s municipal elections. Of the 31.14 percent, 325 votes were absentee, with more than 2,400 coming out on election day. Marshall County Clerk Jan Fisher also oversaw her last election as head of the local election board Tuesday night. Fisher has served as the Marshall County Clerk for the past eight years. At the end of this year, her position will be taken over by Julie Fox.
When asked if she will miss working the elections, Fisher said, “I’m sort of sad. I’ll be sitting at home next year thinking to myself, last year I was one of the first to know the results, now I’ll wait for the radio and TV to announce the results.” She also said, “I won’t miss getting up at 3 a.m. on election day — I’m not a morning person!” She said next year she will have the opportunity to join her husband, County Surveyor Larry Fisher, at headquarters to celebrate his campaign to serve the citizens of Marshall County as surveyor for another four years. In the last eight years, Fisher has seen some big changes, including the statewide implementation of voter identification, the requirement for new handicap accessible voting machines and even the ability to show voting results on the county’s Web site almost immediately. Fisher said, “Today’s election went almost too smoothly. I was waiting for some kind of problem but we didn’t have any.” WTCA contributed to this report.
