Lilly Scholar Malone earns four-year scholarship E-mail
Thursday, 05 April 2007
BREMEN — Two Marshall County students will receive full, four-year scholarships as the Marshall County Community Foundation 2007 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars.
Heidi Keiser of Plymouth and Kristen Malone of Bremen will receive not only full tuition to the Indiana college of their choice, but also an $800 stipend for required books and equipment each year.
Kristen, the daughter of Mark and Debra Malone of Bremen, is a senior at Bremen High School.  Kristen is planning on attending either Butler University or Indiana University to major in pre-med.
Heidi, the daughter of Steve and Lori Keiser of Plymouth, is a senior at Plymouth High School. Heidi is planning on attending either DePauw or the University of Notre Dame, to major in economics.
The Lilly Scholarship Selection Committee chose the two finalists after reviewing 30 applications and interviewing four applicants. The committee includes: Kay Finlay, Chair, Judy Delp, Latham Lawsom, Brad Schuldt, Louise Mason, Sarah Smith, Susan Wagner, Todd Burch, Isabel Sanchez and Dr. Don Balka.
ICI (Independent Colleges of Indiana) administers the scholarship program.  ICI is a nonprofit corporation that represents 31 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges and universities in the state.
The scholarships are the result of a statewide Lilly Endowment Initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education. Indiana ranks among the lowest states in the percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a bachelor’s degree.  There were 216 scholarships awarded statewide for 2006-2007.
