Knott signed on for 1 additional year E-mail
Thursday, 05 April 2007
KNOX — The Knox Community School (KCS) Board approved the contract extension of Kim Knott, KCSC Superintendent at Monday evening’s bi-monthly meeting. Knott, who assumed the position on Jan. 17, 2005, received a contract renewal through June 30, 2009.
The board was scheduled to renew the contract through 2011, but opted for the one year renewal after teachers asked for the matter to be tabled.
County Road 150 South was once again a discussion on the agenda. City officials are looking into extending County Road 150 South, also called  “cemetery road,” to “make it a real road.” According to Knott, Knox Mayor Dennis Estok told her the timeline of the project is not definitive, but it is inevitable.
The school corporation’s main concern, if the extension goes through, is bus access to the bus barn.
“If CR 150 is extended, the impact to Knox schools would most likely mean less distance for bus drivers to make the 90 degree turn into the bus barn area,” Knott said.
“Consequently, we would need to investigate other routes available to drivers for entering and leaving the bus barn.  Simply put, the extension of County Road 150 may result in structural changes to the bus barn area,” she said.
The bus turning area was paved by the school corporation, but the land is city-owned.
150 South is the new road created by the Main Street Extension. The road exists on maps, but became reality when the city needed to turn Main Street to the East to meet U.S. 35.
Another topic brought before the board was the purchase of new textbooks. One of the texts recommended would mean a switch to the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting technique. The Zaner-Bloser style of writing is a more vertical style of writing which may prove to be easier to master than that of the D’Nealian style which utilized a lot of loops in its letter formation.
