Police appreciate Martin’s efforts E-mail
Tuesday, 23 October 2007
By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH — Martin’s Super Market received words of praise from the Plymouth Police Department.
Police Chief Jim Cox reported to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety that the local Martin’s had raised $2,500 for the department at a recent fundraiser at the store. Cox also reported that employees spent time doing detail work on several of the department’s vehicles that was greatly appreciated by the department.
Mayor Gary Cook stated that the store, “…giving back to the community is greatly appreciated.”
Cox said that part of the funds raised would go to replacing officer Gary Cleveland’s bicycle.
In other business:
• County Commissioner Tom Chamberlin spoke to the city’s Water Works and Sanitary Board. Chamberlin requested the city credit the county for the $1,725 that they paid to have water service turned on at the new jail facility.
The board voted to give the county a credit of that amount on their water bill.
Chamberlin had also planned to ask the Sanitary Board for some sort of assistance in the cost of the lift station at the facility. Cost over-runs were incurred due to the city asking the station be in a certain location to handle future expansion in the area.
Chamberlin was still lacking all invoices for the project and asked to speak to the board at a future meeting, after he has a chance to obtain all contractors bills. Trustees voted to table the matter until Chamberlin could provide specific numbers.
• The Plymouth Street Department is the owner of an old ambulance thanks to the Plymouth Fire Department, who donated the rig.
The board of works voted to transfer the 1990 ambulance to the street department. Superintendent Jim Marquardt said the vehicle will be used for equipment in the city’s sidewalk improvement program.
• Water Superintendent Jeff Yeazel reminded the public that hydrant flushing in the city begins today. The city will also be taking the west water tower off line for annual maintenance later this week. The tower is expected to be back on line by next Tuesday.
