KNOX — Nick Bourff has filed his candidacy for the office of Starke County Prosecuting Attorney. Bourff is a graduate of Knox High School, and a lifelong resident of Starke County. He earned his Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in English and Speech from Wabash College, and earned his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Dayton School of Law. After Bourff was sworn into the Indiana Bar, he began practicing law in Knox at the law office of Nichols and Wallsmith.
In his time at Nichols and Wallsmith, he has practiced law in the areas of criminal defense, municipal law, family law and real estate Law. In his time working as a criminal defense attorney, Bourff has represented clients in both misdemeanor and felony criminal jury trials in Starke Circuit Court. At the conclusion of both jury trials, Bourff’s clients were found not guilty on all counts. Bourff lives in Knox with his wife, Erin. His involvement with the local community includes positions on the Knox Park Board, the Starke County Purdue Extension Board (4-H), the Junior Achievement Board of Directors, and the vice president of Kiwanis. Bourff’s association with Kiwanis has included time spent in conjunction with all three schools in the Knox School System organizing the annual Christmas food drive. As a volunteer with Junior Achievement, Bourff has spent hours in Knox Middle School 7th grade classrooms helping students understand the principles behind a free market economy. In addition, he has volunteered time to participate in the North Judson Middle School’s annual Career Day. Bourff was also honored as the keynote speaker at Knox High School’s Class of 2008 Graduation. “I would find it an honor to serve the same community where I was raised. When I finished law school, I was thrilled that an opportunity presented itself to establish my career here in Starke County,” he said. He continued, “It is a gratifying experience for me to be involved in a community that embraced my family the way it did over the years. I know that I would serve Starke County very effectively as its prosecuting attorney. I believe my experience as a criminal defense attorney offers me a unique and valuable perspective as a prosecuting attorney. If elected prosecuting attorney, I will approach and examine all cases on an individual basis.” He added, “I would also look to cultivate a positive working relationship between the prosecutor’s office, the county’s law enforcement departments, and the Starke County community.”
