Trailer completely lost in Tuesday fire E-mail
Wednesday, 27 January 2010
PLYMOUTH — Firefighters from three departments battled a house trailer fire Tuesday afternoon.
A passerby called the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office 911 and reported a house trailer fully engulfed on Rose Road.
The Polk Township Fire Department was dispatched to 6319 Rose Road at 3:13 p.m. The department immediately requested a full response from LaPaz Fire and the Plymouth Fire Department.

As firefighters arrived on the scene, they found that the trailer was already burned to the ground, but fought the flames for over an hour as wind was a contributing factor to the rapid spread.
Joe Cladey, Polk Township Fire chief, said an investigation into the cause of the fire was almost impossible because there was nothing left to trace. He explained that the home is on a road that is not highly traveled and the winds Tuesday caused the fire to spread rapidly. He said they have ruled the fire as accidental and undetermined.
No injuries were reported.
Owners of the 1971 trailer, Rusty and Helen Hendricks, lost everything they owned, including the family’s pet dog.   They were not home when the fire broke out.
Rusty, a construction worker, just went back to work two weeks ago and his wife was at a job interview.
The Hendricks had no insurance because insurance companies said the home was too old to insure.
The American Red Cross has provided the Hendricks  with two nights in a local hotel and gave the family some money for clothes and necessities.
The family has three horses and a donkey and will be looking for a place to rent in the country. The main items they need immediately are clothing and cash to get by.  Rusty needs a pair of steel toe boots and tennis shoes, size 9-1/2, jeans size 34/32, and shirts and sweatshirts size large.  Helen wears tennis shoes size 9-1/2, jeans size 0/3, and small to medium size shirts.
Anyone who is able to assist this family can call the Hendricks cell phones (574-806-6319 or 574-806-4548).
