Steve Dimmitt once again donated vehicles to the Argos Fire and EMS for jaws of life extraction practice, just as he has done in the past.
The volunteer “patients” for this extraction were Rhonda Calhoun, Reghan Dunham and Ryan Mullanay. After being made-over with gruesome wounds by Denis Good each victim took his or her place and awaited removal from the vehicle according to the severity of their conditions. For example, Dunham was extracted first because her role was a 14-year-old female with a week pulse, shallow breathing and not responding. Next was Calhoun, who was a 29-year-old noticably pregnant female, who was conscious but had a rapid heart-rate and pulse. Finally Mullanay, in fair condition, was rescued from the vehicle after the roof was cut off.
The EMS responders participating in the mock rescue were Angie Jablonski, Beth Good, Elizabeth Hylton and Kandy Trump. Other members of the fire and EMS departments played major roles, such as manning the jaws of life and directing everyone, including Bobby Lyon, Doug Good, Isaac Snavely, Nick Hylton, Dave Mullanay and Ray Trump, to name a few.
After completing the exercise, those present gathered together for a little critiquing. “Overall, the practice went pretty well,” commented EMS training officer Doug Good.
