“I always knew she would make it,” Pat Norwick, Plymouth, mother of Amy Ward, said.
And she has.
Amy, a 1993 Plymouth High School graduate, has aired hundreds of songs on TV and Film in the United States, Canada, Europe, and all over the world. Her voice and songs have been heard on CBS, ABC, FX, FOX, UPN, the WB and Lifetime since 2002.
Her latest is a digital Christmas CD release “Wintersongs” on ITunes.
“Wintersongs” takes you on a holiday journey of original songs and Christ-mas classics.
Her songwriting and piano skills shine in “The One That I Love,” and “Merry Christmas, with Love.”
Amy said that the new wave in the music business is digital media. (All of her music is available on Itunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, CDbaby and www.amyward.com)
Amy is the daughter and step-daughter of Patty and Dan Norwick, Plymouth, and the daughter of the late Don Ward, who also taught music. Her brother, Thad Ward, is also a professional musician in the New York area.
As a child of 12, Ward, started writing her own songs, mostly love songs and ballads. Her first was entitled, “Just the Way I Am.”
When she was 13, her step-father, an electrician, built her a home sound system so she could record her music. She’s been doing it ever since.
Amy sang in the Trinity United Methodist Church choir, studied piano first with her mother and later with Liz Tallarita. She took voice lessons from Chris Pickell, Plymouth, and Virginia Morrow of Indiana University/South Bend.
She entertained at local festivals and county fairs and appeared numerous times on Ed Friend’s South Bend television show, “Kids Adventure Zone.” She also sang for the Ice Capades and the South Bend White Sox’s opening ceremonies.
During Desert Storm, Amy’s Song, “I Can See the Light,” was frequently requested by the families of soldiers serving in the war and was played all over the northern Indiana and Chicago area radio stations.
Bob Pickell, PHS and Lincoln Junior High music teacher, worked with one of his prized students, a member of the All-State Choir, through high school. She wrote the 1993 class song, “It’s Time to Make a Stand.”
After high school, Amy attended to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, on a scholarship, graduating in 1997.
She then set out, after graduating with honors, to make a name for herself in the music world.
Nothing if not persistent, Amy sang with several wedding bands in Boston and New York City while she made her rounds. For three-and-a-half years, as lead singer and pianist, she toured the northeast with the six-piece Amy Ward Band, an R&B / funk and dance band.
In March 2002, Ward signed with Heavy Hitters Music, (a New York-based publishing company) and Riptide Music (an L.A-based publishing company)as a songwriter for TV and Film. She has also performed at the prestigious Madison Square Garden, The Bitter End, The Cutting Room and other popular New York City venues.
In 2004, she and her original band opened three shows for the Dave Matthews Band in Indiana and Massachusetts. That same year, she sang the National Anthem for the New York Mets at Shea Stadium.
Currently, a full-time songwriter, Amy continues to write songs in her New Jersey home-recording studio, along with various studios in New York City. Her husband, Frank Wurst accompanies her on guitar frequently at many of her performances. Ward says “I am very excited to release my 2nd CD “Wintersongs.” Her first CD release “Twenty-Nine” is also available on Itunes and various stores, including Karma Records in Plymouth.
Pat said, “I am so proud of her. She has worked so hard.”
