SOUTH BEND — WNIT Public Television’s popular weekly survey of the political spectrum, “Politically Speaking,” airs Sunday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. This week, host Jim Wensits welcomes the mayoral candidates for Elkhart and Plymouth. During the first half of the program, Wensits welcomes three candidates for the Elkhart mayor’s office: • Oscar Gibson, Independent • Jim Pettit, Republican • Dick Moore, Democrat Questions will be asked by reporters Bridget Levitz of the Truth and Robert Borelli, etruth.com.
During the second half, Wensits’ guests are the Plymouth mayoral candidates: • Gary Cook, Democrat and incumbent • Mark Senter, Republican The candidates will be questioned by Rusty Nixon of the Pilot News and Mike Petrucelli of the South Bend Tribune. “Politically Speaking” talks about politics of vital interest at the national, state and local levels. Chamber debate Plymouth mayoral candidates Cook and Senter will debate before the public Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. at Christos Banquet Center, 830 E. Lincolnway. The Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee will sponsor the hour- and-a-half debate. Both candidates met with the Chamber to structure the ground rules and format for the debate. The public is invited to submit written questions to be asked of both candidates. These questions will be accepted by the Chamber until Friday, Oct. 19. Questions received will be secured until members of the Chamber Legislative Committee and a representative of each candidate open them jointly. The questions received by the Chamber will begin the debate that evening. Written questions from the public will also be accepted the night of the debate. The candidates will flip a coin to determine who will begin the debate. Each candidate will start by giving a five-minute opening statement. Public questions will then be posted to the candidates by Mike Lintner, moderator for the evening. Alternating, each will have a chance for answering and rebuttal. Concluding the debate, each candidate will give a three-minute closing statement. WTCA 1050 AM will air the debate live. |
