Big weekend on tap as downtown Plymouth Rocks E-mail
Tuesday, 17 November 2009
By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH — Downtown Plymouth will be rocking over the weekend if the downtown merchants have anything to say about it.
Thirty downtown businesses have gotten together to put together a holiday weekend to remember for fun and great deals heading into the holiday season. Music, special events and door prizes are just part of a big weekend in town that will also include horse-drawn carriage rides Friday evening.
“We’re going to have Garro Street blocked off as a staging area,” said Brian VanDuyne of Fernbaugh’s Jewelry, one of the organizers of the celebration. “We’ll be giving rides from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.”
The Lincoln Legends will be roaming the downtown caroling Friday night, with the Jefferson and Webster elementary choirs singing downtown on Thursday night. Also on Thursday will be the Marshall County Museum open house.
Saturday the City Center Gallery will be presenting new works by artists Bonnie Rock, Valerie Schafer and Jeff Matejovsky with a reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The night will be capped off by the annual Mayor’s Ball.
“We’re giving away two $250 gift certificates and you can register for a chance to win up to 30 times,” said VanDuyne. “People will be able to register once at each of the 30 businesses taking part.
“We just wanted to do something to get everybody downtown to have a good time and see what the city of Plymouth has to offer. It would be really nice to see some people from around the county and even outside the county come down and visit us. It would be nicer still to see a lot of people taking a carriage ride on Friday night.”
There is one thing that the merchants absolutely do not want to see.
“I’d be real happy if the rain decides to stay away,” said VanDuyne.
