PLYMOUTH — Preparing for a catastrophe is on the agenda for the area’s children this week.
It’s Fire Prevention Week and in Plymouth, the fire department safe house is making its round of schools teaching area children just what to do in case of a fire in their homes.
Plymouth firefighters are taking their turns on the agenda hoping to help teach how to survive a fire.
As part of awareness week, the PFD will host an open house on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to promote fire safety.
Tours of the fire station, located at 111 N. Center St., will be held and children will also have the opportunity to take a ride in the bucket of a fire truck. Stickers, cookies and coloring books promoting safety will also be handed out to those in attendance.
Members of the Delta Theta Tau sorority will also be selling Nelson’s Port-a-Pit chicken with all proceeds from the sale going to benefit the fire department and the safe house program.
Tickets are available for $5 and can be purchased in advance from any Plymouth volunteer fireman or sorority member or by calling Melissa Owen at 574-936-1796 or Kelly Redinger at 574-936-9829.
