Pilot photo/Rusty Nixon By Rusty Nixon Correspondent PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Lions Club is making sure that the area’s third graders are loquacious. The club is in the process of handing out dictionaries to third graders in the Plymouth School System. St. Michael Catholic School was the first school to receive copies earlier this week.
“The state board of education says that third graders have to be familiar with the dictionary,” said Bill Wallace, district governor of the Lions Club District 25G. “We want to make sure we get a dictionary into the hands of every third grader in Plymouth.” In coming weeks the club will visit every elementary school to hand out dictionary’s. The club also is active with providing eyeglasses for children and scholarships to support the community. Wallace says that the club uses fundraisers throughout the year to help raise the money needed for the programs, but adds they would like to raise something else as well. “We’re looking for members and we’d love to have people find out what the Lions Club is all about,” said Wallace. Anyone who wishes to find out about the Lions in Plymouth can call Wallace at 574-935-3439 or visit the club’s Web site at : www.lions25g.org.
