Harry D. Kane

    BREMEN — Harry Dale Kane passed away Wednesday, Oct.  21, 2009 in Bremen. 
    He was born Sept. 16, 1925 in North Liberty to Robert and Augusta (Hanson) Kane. He graduated from North Liberty High School in 1943 where he lettered in basketball and took part in school plays.
    After graduation Harry joined the U.S. Army and left to serve his country during WWII in the Philippines and later was stationed in Japan as a sergeant. He returned home and married Wanda Ruth Lauver June 18, 1949, at North Liberty United Methodist Church. Wanda preceded him in death June 12, 2008.
    Harry worked at Studebakers and retired from Bendix after 32 years. He farmed in North Liberty and moved to Bremen in 1971 when the Kane farmland was purchased for the development of Potato Creek State Park. He continued to farm in Bremen and was a member of Indiana Farm Bureau.
    Harry is survived by his family who dearly loved him and greatly admired his strength and honesty in everything he did. His six daughters and spouses are: David and Jane Yoder, Tim and Jan Hardy, Todd and Jenny Bennitt, Tracy and Julie Miller, all of Bremen; Don and Jill Mulvihill of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; and Dave and Joann Teune of Concord, N.H.
    Harry greatly enjoyed being part of the lives of all 17 grandchildren he was blessed with: Shannon (Mark) McBride, Ryan (Brooke) Libey, Shane Libey, Ben and Katelyn Yoder, Ruth, Ellen and Daniel Mulvihill, Dianne, Kevin and Bethany Hardy, Patrick, Aaron and Brian Teune, Laura (Kirk) Bates, Lenae and Lacey Bennitt. Harry also had seven great-grandchildren: Dane, Rylan and Jaleigh McBride; Brylie, Seth and Elle Libey; and Landon Bates.
    Harry is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth Kane of South Bend; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Del and Julia Lauver of Niles, Mich. His parents preceded him in death as well as his brother, Marvin Kane; and sister, Mary (Kane) Albright.
    Harry demonstrated to his family a strong work ethic and possessed a keen sense of who he was that earned him respect by all.
    Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Harry's life at Nappanee Missionary Church Sunday, Nov. 8, at 2:30 p.m. A time of fellowship for all will follow.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bremen United Methodist Daycare where Harry served as one of the founding board members and happily spent many years as “handyman” and stopped in for visits, or to Nappanee Missionary Church where he attended.
