Young authors enjoy annual conference

CULVER — Culver Elementary School played host to the 25th annual Marshall County Young Author’s Conference Thursday night and marked the occasion with a visit from award-winning children’s author Carolyn Crimi.
Crimi shared time with students at the school before a private book signing and “meet and greet” with winners in the conference’s annual student writing contest, and gave an address to parents and students in the school’s recently-renovated gymnasium.

KNOX — Miss Kankakee Valley and Miss South Bend organization have announc-ed the winners of the pageant held  at the Knox Middle School.
Seven young women competed for the coveted title of Miss Kankakee Valley and Miss South Bend. The pageant winning entries will compete in the 2010 Miss Indiana Pageant to be held next summer.
Four teens competed for Miss Kankakee Valley Outstanding Teen.  
Crowned the 2010 Miss Kankakee Valley was Kelsey Strahla from Argos.
Strahla is a senior at Argos High School and was a first-time competitor at this level.

The new Miss South Bend was Jean Medin, a junior at St. Mary’s College, originally from Elkhart.  Both Strah-la and Medin are eligible for the Miss Indiana Pageant.
Named as Miss Kankakee Valley Outstanding Teen was Alison Minegar from Osceola, who is a student at Penn High School.  Minegar will compete at the Miss Outstanding Teen pageant held in June.
All winning participants receive a scholarship award.
“I am very pleased with this year’s pageant,” commented Christy Messer, pageant director. “I anticipate this pageant to become larger each year as more young women find this to be an excellent opportunity to move up to the Miss Indiana Pageant.”
Co-director for the Miss Kankakee Valley, Miss South Bend and Miss Kankakee Valley Teen was Lynn Wall-smith.
