CULVER — Culver Elementary School played host to the 25th annual Marshall County Young Author’s Conference Thursday night and marked the occasion with a visit from award-winning children’s author Carolyn Crimi.
Crimi shared time with students at the school before a private book signing and “meet and greet” with winners in the conference’s annual student writing contest, and gave an address to parents and students in the school’s recently-renovated gymnasium.

Senior Expo on slate for Tuesday E-mail
Monday, 02 November 2009
By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH – Area seniors will be able to check out all the services available to them in one spot Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. as the Marshall County Council on Aging hosts their annual Senior Expo at the LifePlex in Plymouth.
Marshall County residents can even catch a ride with the Council on Aging. An expanded transportation program will make it possible for anyone to get a ride by simply calling toll free from anywhere in Marshall County at 866-936-9904.
“We’ve bought several more vehicles over the past several months and we’ll be making runs all over the county,” said Jackie Wright, director of the Marshall County Council on Aging. “We have multiple vehicles making multiple runs all over the county so that people can get here at a good time. If they live in Plymouth all they have to do is give us a call.
“We’ll also be using covered shuttles to get people in from the parking lot.”
Along with food and information there will also be entertainment throughout the day and special speakers talking on a variety of subjects.
Along with health screenings, the Social Security and Attorney General’s office will have representatives to answer questions and one of the county’s newest service organizations for seniors – TRIAD – will be taking unused and expired medications to be disposed of properly at their “Pill Drop.”
Representatives from the Mar-shall County TRIAD and the Marshall County Solid Waste District will be on hand to accept  unwanted and unused medications and dispose of them safely. In addition, information about the newly created TRIAD will be available.
The Residential Pill Drop is open to seniors and their caregivers. Please no pharmacies, clinics or Doctor’s Offices.
All liquid medications must be brought in their original containers. There will be a law enforcement presence at the Pill Drop Location.
“The last pieces are coming together,” said Wright.
