By Kayla Bear Intern Nate Cox of Bremen made his way to Indianapolis Sunday, Oct. 20, to pick up his roommate, completely unaware that he would be involved in an event that seems nothing less than a miracle.
A semi driver’s brakes locked up as he was about to merge into a left lane, the lane Cox was traveling in. “A minivan tried to get onto 465 from an onramp and a car in front of mine slammed on his brakes to avoid colliding with the minivan,” said Cox, “I knew I couldn’t stop in time so I tried to veer into another lane, and I lost control and hit the semi whose brakes locked up.” Cox remembers the airbag hitting his face, and he proceeded to move each and every muscle to make sure he wasn’t hurt. His car suffered major damages, including the removal of the hood and both the front and back of the vehicle smashed. Cox, however, walked away from the crash with nothing more than a few airbag burns on his arm. “I stopped moving ... a guy came and helped me climb out the back,” Cox said. Cox is a 2009 graduate of Bremen High School and a student at Ball State University in Muncie.
