Heinz Schafer
Feb. 21, 1924 — Oct. 25, 2009
    PLYMOUTH — Heinz W. Schafer, age 85, of 678 Windmill Drive, Plymouth, passed away at 8:54 a.m.  Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at his home. 
    Heinz was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Dusseldorf, Germany, to Willi and Anna (Springer) Schafer.  Heinz started playing the violin at the age of five.  He later studied at the Hamburg Conservatory of Music.  
    He served with the German Air Force from May 1, 1941, during WWII, as a radio operator. Heinz immigrated to the United States in 1950.  He and Lucille E. Andrews were united in marriage Feb. 13, 1954.  Lucille preceded Heinz in death Dec. 18, 1997.  
    Heinz was retired from Kelly Buick, in Bremen, as an auto mechanic. He was a member of the First Church of Christ, in Plymouth. Heinz will be deeply missed by his loving family, and his cat, Sam.
    Heinz is survived by his daughter, Peggy (Mark) Keller of Plymouth; his son, Willi (Erin) Schafer of Fort Wayne; his sisters: Marianne Ehnes of Great Falls, Mo. and Anneliese Grohmann of Hamburg, Germany. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Matthew Keller and Anne Keller, both of Plymouth.
    The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Marshall County Humane Society, P.O. Box 22, Plymouth, IN, 46563, or to the First United Church of Christ, 321 N. Center St., Plymouth, IN, 46563.
