Bremen’s Salhoff walks for the cure E-mail

pilot Photo/Mandy McFarland Bremen’s Debi Salhoff and Mike Tatich have teamed up to raise funds toward breast cancer awareness. Salhoff is participating in the Breast Cancer 3-Day in Chicago next year, and must raise $2,400 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

BREMEN — Debi Salhoff of Bremen plans to walk 60 miles in three days next August, all in the name of breast cancer research. Known simply as The Breast Cancer 3-Day, the walk will raise funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a national foundation that seeks to end breast cancer.
The walk will be no stroll through the park. Salhoff, who has participated twice in the past, knows that she is in for three grueling days of sore muscles and feet and physical exhaustion, accompanied by two chilly nights of sleeping on the ground, with only a tent for shelter. However, for Salhoff and numerous other participants, it is a small sacrifice compared to the lifelong battle many breast cancer patients experience.
“I think it is just a small sample of what somebody goes through battling breast cancer,” she said. “You’re pretty miserable, but it’s nothing compared to battling breast cancer.”
There are 12 walks per year nationwide. Salhoff plans to participate in the one in Chicago, but first she must raise $2,400. This will come primarily from individual donations from the community. Salhoff is available at 546-5743 or visit www.the 3day.org and search “Debi Salhoff.”
