CULVER — Culver Elementary School played host to the 25th annual Marshall County Young Author’s Conference Thursday night and marked the occasion with a visit from award-winning children’s author Carolyn Crimi.
Crimi shared time with students at the school before a private book signing and “meet and greet” with winners in the conference’s annual student writing contest, and gave an address to parents and students in the school’s recently-renovated gymnasium.

Work will start on city street projects E-mail
Sunday, 11 October 2009
By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH — The city of Plymouth will begin it’s street and sidewalk projects for the year over the next couple of weeks.
Starting Monday, Oct. 12, Rieth-Riley will begin work on Lincolnway East from the “Y” east to the corporate limits and continue work on the road up to Wednesday. On that day they also plan to begin work milling Oak Drive, north of Hoham to just south of the corporate limits.

“That project (Oak Drive) was put in when we cut back on the original Oak Drive project,” said Plymouth City Engineer Rick Gaul. “This will bridge the gap there.”
Crews hope to finish both projects by the end of the week.
During the week of Oct. 19, crews will begin sidewalk and drive construction on Lincolnway East. Work will also be done on Hillcrest Drive in the course of the projects.
“We went out and did an inventory of the streets and put them on a five-year plan (for repair) and this keeps us in line with that plan,” said Gaul. “We took a look at all the streets and their condition, took into account how much and what kind of traffic were on them — car or semi traffic — and we put them on a priority list.
“Even at that you have things slip up on you that need immediate attention.”
Hillcrest Drive was such a project as the road showed much more wear much more quickly than anticipated.
“They started having a lot of trouble with ice last winter and the road just started falling apart,” said Gaul. “That will be the only street we have to close with these projects. We’re putting a pipe under the road to help their drainage and the milling we’re doing is going to go too deep for cars to really go over safely.”
Rieth-Riley has 45 days to complete the projects once they’ve been done but the crews hope to complete their work at the end of two weeks.
