By Jeff Kenney Staff Writer
CULVER — Culver Elementary School played host to the 25th annual Marshall County Young Author’s Conference Thursday night and marked the occasion with a visit from award-winning children’s author Carolyn Crimi.
Crimi shared time with students at the school before a private book signing and “meet and greet” with winners in the conference’s annual student writing contest, and gave an address to parents and students in the school’s recently-renovated gymnasium.

Witmer preserves draw on Senior Night E-mail

Plymouth senior midfielder Brandi Witmer (4) looks to make a drop against Adams during Tuesday’s game.

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth started slow after a week-long layover, but senior mid Brandi Witmer found the net with just nine minutes to play, preserving a 1-1 tie with South Bend Adams on Senior Night at Plymouth.
Neither team scored until the second half, but it was Adams which struck first as Maeve Mallozzi-Kelly scor-ed a direct goal in the 63rd minute. The visitors re-mained up 1-nil until junior forward Brea Whitmire found Witmer — a one-time striker with the team — who finished the late goal in the gusty, wet weather and prevented a Plymouth loss with appropriate Senior Night heroics.

The Lady Pilgrims bid good-bye to a strong core of 10 seniors in their final game of the year before beginning Argos Sectional play against the host Dragons next Monday. The Pilgrim seniors are: Witmer, goalie Nikki Butcher, defenders Katie Reed, Kaycee Lynch, Joy Rich, Maggie Tanner and midfielders Kayla Ray, Samantha Webster, Kayla Vanlue and Anna Rosas.
Plymouth closes regular-season play at 10-4-2.
