Argos Schools score high on ISTEP+ E-mail
Thursday, 24 September 2009
By Carol Anders Correspondent
ARGOS — The latest ISTEP (Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Purposes-Plus) scores for the Argos Schools prove what the school’s administrators already knew.
Argos Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Lucht said, “The scores are evidence that a smaller school can provide a good education.”
According to Guidance Counselor Judy Delp, the Argos Schools scored significantly higher than the state average in all 22 areas.
“In comparing the Argos scores to others in Marshall County,” Delp said, “we were higher than other schools in Marshall (Coun-ty) in a majority of the 22 areas.”
Dr. Lucht praised the staff for their outstanding efforts.
“I commend our teachers here for their dedication to making sure there is success for all students. They go up and beyond by making time before and after school for teaching,” Lucht said.
The ISTEP+ test was given in the spring for the first time this year. Previously, the test was administered in the fall.
Delp said, “Last spring, a great concern was expressed  during the administration of the ISTEP+ for grades 3 through 8 as most thought this last version of the ISTEP+ was the most difficult.”
According to the Indiana Department of Education, the ISTEP testing measures what students know and are able to do at each grade level.
The questions on the tests are based on the Indiana Academic Standards. The current scores will be used as benchmark scores for comparison in the future.
The next testing dates will be from March 1 to 10, 2010 and April 26 to May 5, 2010.
