By Rusty Nixon Correspondent BOURBON — Pro wrestling is coming to the area with a show to raise money for the families of troops overseas. NWA Pro Wrestling will bring its event “A Call to Arms” to the Bourbon Park Pavillion Saturday at 7 p.m. to raise money for the Armed Forces Foundation. The charity supports the families of those troops stationed overseas who are struggling financially.
“I remember seeing stories about how many families of our soldiers are having trouble paying the bills at home and we wanted to do something to help,” said Merle Ramsey of NWA, the show’s promoter. “We did some research and found The Armed Forces Found-ation. They’re based in Washing-ton D.C. and they help with things like rent an utilities even after the troops come home.” The independent wrestling show will feature some of the up- and-coming names in wrestling, including Jimmy Shalwin, whose tag team was featured in a segment on MTV. “He’s definitely a guy the fans love to hate,” said Ramsey. “Of course, he kind of brings that on himself.” The show has a definite international flavor with El Tigre – a favorite from Mexico – and the Blue Inferno – an international star from El Salvador. “Gregory the Gorrilla is really a fan favorite and he’ll be there,” said Ramsey. “There’s also Mr. Nifty. who’s a real up-and-coming wrestler on the independent circuit.” NWA has been producing shows all over the Midwest for the past two years and is based in Elkhart. It has done more than 60 shows. “A lot of the guys are from the Midwest and have wrestled all over the world in the independent circuit,” said Ramsey. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids and children under 5 are free.
