Rhebeca Stockman, 11, Alan Stockman, 36, Wayne Stockman, 56, and Victor Stockman, 81 were four generations participating in the Blueberry Bicycle Cruise last weekend. Photo provided By Rusty Nixon Correspondent PLYMOUTH — The family that rides together, stays together. At least that’s what the Stockmans believe.
Grandfather Vic (81), of Plymouth, was able to ride with son Wayne (56), grandson Alan (36) and great granddaughter Rhebeca (11) in the annual Blueberry Bicycle Cruise from Plymouth to Culver — then back. “Rhebeca has ridden with us the past couple of years,” said Vic. “The first time, it was just as far as she could and back, but the past couple of years she’s made the ride to Culver and back.” The family is hardly a stranger to road events. Vic has run in 212 road races over the years and took up cycling about 15 years ago when he could no longer compete as a runner. He has run in the Blue-berry Stomp 25 times — from 1978 to 2005. Now at age 81 he’s just a cyclist. Grandson Alan was a bike racer for years until he also was forced to give it up. “I’ve put over 30,000 miles on this bike,” he said. “I went coast to coast 10 years ago with ‘Wandering Wheels’ out of Taylor University.” The Blueberry ride is a family event that none of the Stockmans would miss. “It’s always very special and meaningful to us because you just don’t know how many years you have left to do it,” said Vic. “And you always run into all your old friends that you meet from events over the years.”
