PLYMOUTH — A local man was killed Tuesday when he apparently was pulled into a wood-chipper near Atwood.
According to Kosciusko County police, James Vician, 37, was feeding cut tree limbs near 7511 West Hillcrest Drive, Hoffman Lake.
Around 9 a.m., police received a call that he was possibly pulled into the wood-chipper.
Officers arrived and discovered evidence the victim, who was a resident of 2662 Michigan Road, Lot #9.  He had been working for the company Tree Core, based out of New Carlisle.
Vician’s co-worker, Brian Whitaker, had been across the street and was not present when the accident oc-curred, police said.
“He apparently had returned to the wood-chipper and could not immediately find Vician until he examined the rear portion of the holding/boom truck,” said Sgt. Chad Hill. “The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office advised that the incident appears to be accidental, but also advised that it is still under investigation for complete, positive identification which may come later in the week.”
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and Coroner’s Office were assisted at the scene by the Atwood Fire Department and Multi-Township EMS.
