By Lydia Beers Pilot News Intern PLYMOUTH — What began as a simple fundraiser for the Marshall County Humane Society has now become a full morning of pet pampering, thanks to generous Plymouth donors.
Saturday, the shelter will be holding a dog wash at Plymouth Express Lube from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Any dog owner is welcome to take their dog in for a bath. The humane society asks for a donation to benefit their homeless dogs. This is the first dog wash the shelter has held — and they expect a good turnout. Plymouth LP has donated propane to keep the water hot, and the Plymouth Dairy Queen has donated Dilly Bars and dog treats for the participants. “We will have three volunteers there,” says Nancy Cox, director of the shelter, “two doing the bathing and one drying the dogs.” Dog shampoo will be provided. Special flea shampoo will be available if needed, but the majority of dogs will be bathed using a baby powder scented shampoo. “This is the shampoo that I use on my own dog,” says Cox. “It is very mild and smells great!” “If someone does have a dog with allergies,” she adds, “they can bring their own shampoo for us to use.” The humane society would like to caution owners to bring leashes and collars for their pets, and also to avoid bringing a known aggressive dog. “Everyone deserves a good bath,” laughs Cox, “Why wouldn’t you want to come?”
